What Are Orthopedic Procedures?

Orthopedics refers to any type of treatment or surgery that is performed on the musculoskeletal system. These types of treatments are often done to restore mobility in animals.

What Types of Orthopedic Conditions Will The Vet Check For?

A veterinarian can provide screening for many orthopedic conditions. The most common types of orthopedic difficulties are dysplasia, luxating patellas, and arthritis. These conditions and some others can be diagnosed through manipulation, MRI, and x-ray. Our team of trained professionals will be able to determine the type of condition as well as the severity of the condition.

Once your animal has been properly diagnosed, a treatment plan can be developed.

What Can I Expect During The Exam?

As the vet examines your pet, they will be looking for any kind of sticking or joints, popping, or locking of joints. These symptoms can indicate orthopedic problems. If your pet is already in a great deal of pain, it may be sedated for the exam.

What Treatments Are Available?

In many cases, orthopedic surgery may be needed to correct your pet’s orthopedic problems. You will be able to discuss treatment options with your vet during your visit.
